Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 does NOT raise the bar as far as multiplayer goes.
I have indeed purchased a copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, so I can review it and also see how it works, maybe get some sort of dedicated server running.
The thing that made the call of duty series great was the fact that you could connect to a dedicated server; use your own modifications and maps to keep the game alive after a while of playing it.
The fact that they have removed everything that made it stand out in the PC community (lean, console etc) really takes the biscuit. Not only are we now limited to 9 vs. 9 matches (okay this might be nice for some), but the rest of us (PC gaming community) hate the idea. We have to deal with a lot of lag in-game and constant host migrations.
The only thing missing when playing the multiplayer is the fact I should be sitting at my computer with a console controller. That’s how it looks and it’s how it makes me feel.
A very sad day indeed.
The advertising and pricing
I’ve heard countless adverts on the radio and seen many online as well as on television, which all state the game is coming out on Xbox 360 and PS3… no mention of the PC version, why is this? Maybe it’s to do with sales or maybe it’s due to the fact that Infinity Ward and Activision no longer wish to cater the game for the PC gamers. Shame really since the PC gamers and the PC community made the game what it is today.
As for the pricing yet again Xbox and PS3 have both had the prices slashed everywhere from Sainsbury’s to Game Station, while the PC users still have to pay full price for a console port!
People have said it’s NOT a console port, but I’ve seen postings of videos and screenshots with error messages about their network settings, and the advice is to follow the on screen instructions that detail how to change the settings on an Xbox, yes you heard right an Xbox!
It would appear that they have not put the effort in to creating a game PC player’s will enjoy as far as multiplayer goes, and just cut corners porting the game from the console and tweaking it a little.
Other funny little things I’ve found while playing the game.
- The AI characters can lean around corners when we can’t.
- The manual lists the game controls and it still has the console button (~).
